Rachel Green “Career History”
“award-winning and exciting female driver”
She entered the Caterham Graduate series, in a car built by her and her father, claiming 9th place in 2001 and actually winning the series in 2002, with 4 wins and 7 podiums. In doing so she made history as the first female to win a Caterham championship in over 40 years of their motorsport history. The 2003 season saw Rachel enter the Caterham Supergraduate series, where she quickly made her mark, scoring a win and 2 podium positions. There followed a further 5 full seasons in the extremely tough Caterham Superlights series. In that time Rachel achieved a further 2 wins and 17 podium positions. In the process, yet again, she made history by becoming the first female to take a race-win each Caterham series contested. Among Rachel’s strengths are her versatility and her willingness to take on a challenge. In 2005 and 2006 she piloted a works Mazda RX8 to a 4th and 6th place respectively in the Britcar 24-hour race at Silverstone. Her participation in the same race in 2008, this time in a Marcos Mantis, netted yet another top-ten finish. 2008 saw her take a one-off entry in the VdeV UK series, an outing that was rewarded with a second place finish. 2006 saw her first foray into GT racing with the awesome Dodge Viper SRT-10 in the FIA GT3 category. Rachel partnered the Belgian GT Driver, Luc Dewinter, who she comprehensively outpaced him and out-qualified. It was only bad luck, which saw them taken out in treacherous conditions at Silverstone, that put paid to what was looking to be a highly successful first outing. Unfortunately, a shortage of funds prevented Rachel from continuing to compete in GT racing for the rest of the season and through 2007.
In 2008 Rachel accepted the offer to compete in British GT3 for Team Modena Lamborghini as stand in for British Touring Car and GT Driver, Adam Jones. With highly experienced GT driver, Piers Johnson, as her second driver, they took a superb 5th place in their first event at Brands Hatch. However, before Rachel could step in the car for her stint at their subsequent round at Silverstone, Piers had found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and ran into a trail of oil and firmly buried the gorgeous Lamborghini in the Armco. In her time in Caterham Superlights, one race in particular stands out as a great illustration of Rachel’s other key attributes, specifically her skill, grit and determination. At the final race of 2007, at Brands Hatch, only she and one other competitor were capable of taking second spot in the Championship. After an incredible race, Rachel emerged victorious by just one thousandth of a second with 2 wheels on the grass. Not surprisingly, she was honoured by the Marshalls’ Club as their "Most Entertaining Driver of the Year". |
