Team GCR “combining professionalism with enthusiasm”

Team GCR is a team that was set up at the start of 2008 by friends Robin Sherwood and Mark Stokes to run a Ginetta G50 in the Ginetta G50 Cup. Robin has acted as Tom Dunstan’s manager since 2005 and the prime motivation to establish Team GCR was to ensure that Tom was in a position to compete effectively in the 2008 season. Before becoming a full-time Team Principal and Driver Manager, Robin has managed one of the most successful and prestigious medical practices in London where, aside from dealing with the business side of the practice, he gained experience of dealing with the needs of clients from all walks of life.

Mark Stokes has extensive experience in the automotive sector and has worked for brands such as BMW, Audi and VW. He has extensive experience as a Motorsport Engineer working for VW and SEAT Works Rally Teams in both British and World Rally Championships as well as running single make challenge cars.

Other Team GCR personnel have experience working for teams such as Fortec and have prepared and run cars in championships such as Formula 3 as well as the Le Mans 24-hour race. The team also enjoy close relations with Maserati, Jaguar Cars, and Aston Martin.

Additionally, Fraser Cowell and Rod Ramsay support Team GCR on the business front. Fraser, a motorsport devotee, holds a senior consulting position within IBM and his background is ideally suited to ensure Team GCR maintain mutually positive relationships with our commercial partners and sponsors.

Rod, now a partner in an independent marketing agency, has previously held senior positions in the motor industry including Marketing Director of Land Rover and Rover Cars. He has extensive experience on both sides of sponsorship agreements and of managing motorsport programmes.

Robin neatly encapsulates Team GCR’s approach when he says,

"We have to be realistic, the current economic climate makes gaining sponsorship difficult but we have a lot to offer .We are a team that looks to combine uniquely the professionalism, which is required to be a “front runner”, with the spirit of fun and enthusiasm that was characteristic of previous generations of motor racing, when the sport provided greater access to supporters and a willingness to share the experience with them. Also, as small close-knit team, we are particularly keen to promote hot young talent to give them a great foundation for future success"
